You can probably say.. Yes your part of my family but this is my bussines, your my customer and it has to stay that way.
If they don'to want to pay maybe a discount could work?

It's freelance not i-don't-get-paid-lance. I'd just point out that the products aren't free to you and you have to at least charge enough to cover your product costs

I just do their makeup once for free then next time they pay half of what I would charge.it worked out for me then they bring friends more faces more money  :-)

thank u for posting this! my friends keep asking me to do their makeup for dates and going out they even use lashes... i didnt know if it was right to tell them i need to start charging :-(

You have to be firm on it or friends/family will take advantage of it. It's one thing if you're using all of their supplies and maybe ask $20 for time, but if you're using your kit especially for fx or full face theatrical you have to let them know it's very time consuming and costly. Your price point should be reflective of what you have in your kit IE: if you're working with lower budget products from a Halloween store it's different than working with more costly alcohol activated palettes, or airbrushing.
