You shouldn't allow coconut oil to be the sole product to moisturize their curly manes. The products & steps that I'm about to list is what I use on my hair and is gentle enough for your lil beauties.
Curly hair, especially thick curly hair, craves moisture hence the crazy frizz. Since natural oils find it difficult to travel down the hair shaft we have to step in.
Do not use shampoos that contain sulfates. Super drying to the hair and scalp. I use As I Am Coconut Cowash where I focus on cleansing the scalp and detangle in sections with either a wide-tooth comb or my fingers (depending on how tangled the hair is). When detangling start from the ends and work your way upwards to reduce breakage. After cleansing and while hair is soaking wet immediately apply a leave in conditioner. I use As I Am Leave In Conditioner because it doesn't contain yucky silcones that could coat the hair. Apply that in sections as well from root to tip...giving focus on the ends. Then you apply either a moisturizing styler or a hair butter. Right now I'm using Camille Rose Naturals Hair Butter. Its rich in the good stuff curly hair loves. Applied in sections as well from root to tip this not only gives it another intense dose of moisture but keeps the frizz down and it makes for beautiful curls without the crunch factor. After all that you can finally use your coconut oil. Not a lot though. Coconut oil for our hair acts as a perfect sealant for our curls. Don't focus so much on the scalp though. I place focus on the bottom half of the hair and whatever you do...do not apply a lot. A quarter size amount should cover what is there...any more than that then you'll have a gummy mess on your hands.
Also, its vital to use a clarifying shampoo at least twice month to really deep cleanse the scalp and hair of buildup so the products you use are maximized to their fullest. Often when people say;"My conditioner stopped working for me so I switched to another one." is because they aren't clarifying their hair. Also deep condition as well at least twice a month. I use As I Am Intensive Deep Conditioner.
As I Am can be found at some Targets and all Sally's Beauty Supply.
Camille Rose Naturals I found on Amazon.

I not too familiar with Bed Head products. I left mainstream hair products alone when I saw a difference in how my hair reacted to products made exclusively from more healing ingredients. As long as its sulfate free its fine to use. :)
