I have really been looking into makeup schools lately. I'm from New Jersey but my commute to New York would be so simple that it's not really an issue to me to choose a school over there. At the top of my list after years of research are both MUD and AOFM. I am just pretty curious because everywhere I look people talk about the cost of MUD, however, I believe they offer Financial Aid? If anybody has any experience with that I would love some feedback on how much help they actually received. I know that AOFM is not a state funded school so you must pay out of pocket which is why I would like to attend somewhere else until I actually have the money saved to take the course there.
I recently took a tour at The Hair Design School which is a partner school with Empire education. I did this with the intent to just see what a cosmetology or aesthetics program consists of. I was thinking maybe I could get licensed so that I can get a job and save to attend a makeup school but my TRUE AND MAIN passion is makeup and I'd like to take courses asap.
Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :) <3

A beauty school you can look into is Chic Studios in NYC.
It is located in MANHATTAN.
They teach:
4-WEEK PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP COURSE
ADVANCED COURSES
AIRBRUSH MAKEUP & SUNLESS TANNING WORKSHOP
BASIC HAIRSTYLING FOR MAKEUP ARTISTS WORKSHOP
And they offer a payment plan!
Many of their graduates work in a variety of fields in the make-up industry- like runway and film/video, like you are interested in, but also fashion, magazines, MAC, etc.
They also help out with simple career skills like helping you build a resume, a portfolio, things like that.
I hope this helps!

I'm planning to attend AOFM hopefully this winter !! The programs and feedback are great, plus they let you experience multiple makeup brands rather than just focusing on 1 or two !! And you can always go back for master classes and fashion week stuff - I find them to be amazing.

I went to MUD here in Los Angeles. I loved it! I wish I still lived up there to take more classes! I have heard good things about the MUFE Academy. I would go there if I could too.

Hey Michele, how did it go with the MUD tour? Reason I ask is because I'm really interested in that school as well but I'm located in TX, so its not easy to just set up a tour. I'll be going to NJ, NY area in March but of next year. So please keep us posted on your journey!!

Eliana G. - I will definitely keep everyone posted! Unfortunately I still haven't been able to attend the tour because of my dear friend Superstorm Sandy. Although things are somewhat better now, the whole NY/NJ area is still trying to return to normalcy. I believe the trains in my area are back up and running so I am going to set up a date to go in next week! Ill let you know how it goes. Is there anything in particular you would like me to ask about? I'd love to help! ;)

After two months I am finally back to report my findings on the search for the best makeup school for me! I continued my research online searching for makeup schools in NJ as I came to the conclusion it would be the best bet for me. I would have loved to attend MUD but it's a lot smarter (for my pocket) to stay in state for now. I discovered the Robert Fiance Makeup Academy here in South Jersey. I went in for my visit today and fell in love. The studio is simple, like I am sure much other makeup studios are, but it just felt so real to me and I knew I had made the right decision. The manage of the school, Paul, was very nice and thoroughly explained everything to me about the programs offered. Currently, their master makeup artistry program is called the Journeyman Program. The is the equivalent to MUD's master program but it goes for about $6,000 cheaper and it's just the same quality education. They are a staff that is very dedicated to their students and I can't wait to begin my time there to ultimately obtain my certification. When I graduate I will have received three certificates: a certificate in Makeup Artistry, Special FX, and Journeyman. As part of the program, there is a course in airbrushing which uses the Temptu airbrushing machine. I can't explain my excitement about finally starting to do what I love. I am one step closer and I LOVE IT! I think overall, I'd have to say if anybody else is on the search for the right makeup school for them, going for the big names isn't always the best route for you. I am not talking badly about MUD because it is an amazing school, however, being that I live in Jersey and unfortunately I am not made of money, the Robert Fiance Makeup Academy is the smartest choice for me and I felt in my element upon just walking through the doors. I know that the quality of education will be great because they are a very accredited makeup school and the first of it's kind here in NJ! Well, that's all ladies. :) Thanks for all your comments and suggestion along the way! When I begin, I will be posting on my blog about what I am learning and how I am utilizing my new knowledge.
