I get my classics from Nordstrom, Saks and few other places because at my age,39, quality over quantity rules. For trendy pieces I pull from H&M and Forever21, Urban Outfitters. The lower priced items are lucky if they survive a season due to wearing out with a quickness while I have items in my closet that have lasted 10+ years...shoes included. Forever21 is notorious for falling apart...holes popping up, fabric fading(and I don't even run them thru the dryer). Sometimes I'll even hit up estate sales for pristine classics like Hermes scarves that I scored for $3 each or my greatest score...never worn Giorgio Armani suit (skirt and jacket).

I need to start going to estate sales. they have a house n the close burbs that does resale on special occasion. my cousin goes spends $100 and comes back with all types of crazy. but she's 50 and describes herself even as frumpy so we have way different styles but I need to see if I can find things that fit my vibe.. ;-)

@michele, they just put a Plato's closet near my gym. I'm going to b going in there often dropping off my stuff. I'm going to see what they have going on.

Plato's annoys me. I took a huge pile of Joie and Hudson jeans in that once retailed for $175-250 bucks. Only two seasons old but the girl told that she never heard of the brands before so they didn't want to buy them. I was able to unload them with a consignment shop in Orlando two hours away. I think if someone is going to work at such a place needs to be educated about the various labels out there...and I shouldn't have known better because the place was exploding at the seams with A&F and American Eagle gear.lol.

I always check thrift stores for clothing! Sometimes there isn't much I really like and since its so cheap, I usually buy a bunch of stuff I don't wear... I have been trying to downsize my wardrobe (got rid of about 500 items last week and still have much more to go), so I have been trying to be smarter about what I take home from thrift stores. I do always buy up leather, fur, and quality accessories when thrifting.

For staple items of great quality, I usually stick to department stores like Bloomingdale's or Neiman Marcus. This is usually limited to good pairs of jeans, winter coats, LBDs, or anything I need to get a ton of use out of where quality is imperative in keeping around these items for for longer than a season or two.

For seasonal/trend items I go with Forever21 or Target. When I shop at Target, it is usually for seasonal accessory trends like bags, jewelry, and shoes. I'll buy clothes from Target if I need something ASAP for one specific event where I probably won't wear the item again. The quality isn't bad, but I can usually find cuter things for a similar price through ASOS or Forever21. Forever21 is not really great quality, so I buy trend items there. I don't need these items to last more than a season since they'll probably be out of fashion or I'll grow tired of them by the time the clothes get worn out. The prices seemed to have increased quite a bit in the past few years, so I don't shop Forever21 as much as I used to.

For longer standing trend items, some staples, and any items I like that I think will be able to last in my wardrobe for a long time, I shop at ASOS. Their quality is pretty good, the have a wide variety of prices and sizes, they have many sales & discount codes, their shipping is fast, and return are super easy, not to mention their customer service is excellent. I paid for a year of "premiere membership" and I get free 2 day shipping, access to sales early, extra discount codes, ect. With the amount of clothing and the frequency I buy from this site (and paid for $12 two day shipping), it has paid for itself MANY times over since I bought into this program and I couldn't be happier.

I have a very hard time finding unique clothing since I am plus sized and cannot walk into just any store and select an item from XS-L or 00-12, so this is basically all I have to work with that suits my style, my sizes, and is age appropriate =/

I feel the same way about target Natalie.. I feel it's a bit overpriced.. they selling jeans for 29/$39 but I can buy expensive jeans on sale at department store or at tjx or nordy rack.
forever21 has definitely gone up on their prices n certain things I just won't but there because of the price.
its cool that you've had such a good experience with Asos. I plan to buy more there going fwd. always see stuff I like there.
