If you go get your makeup done are you picky? Do you let the artist do their thing or not? I had a "client" the other day that told me to give her a smokey eye without dark shadows and was trying to direct me.she was actually really fun to work with after I explained what a smokey eye was. Just felt like sharing and wanted to see what you ladies think when your in the makeup chair 😊

I'm not picky I just get super nervous for some reason lol it's a little awkward for someone to be working on your face

I like to let the artist do whatever they think is best, they are most likely better than me haha and they always do a great job and I like to see what they come up with also.

I think it's important for the make up artists to know what the client wants so I can see where some people would be picky just to make sure they get what they want. I've never had my make up done by a professional but I'm not too picky.

When I was younger like 16 and getting makeup done for homecoming I was picky for some dumb reason lol but nowadays I just let the artist do whateeeeeevvverrr they want now that I appreciate the art it's like having someone else's art on your face instead of your own for a change!

I'm also interested to see what vision this person sees in my face that maybe I've never seen before.

I am picky I guess...but just because I had a few so calles "make up artists" do my makeup and ended up with a old granny makeup look. In switzerland you have to pay looooads of money if you want a makeup artist to do your makeup in a way that you look better afterwards..

I specifically never get my makeup done for that exact reason. I've been doing my own makeup for 8 years, I figure I'm more than capable of applying my makeup the way I want it, so I don't bother hiring someone I'd just boss around and annoy.

I never get my makeup done, but if I did I think I would be, lol.
I wouldn't be directing the artist so much, but I'd be picky about how it was done & the results I got. if it doesn't look better than something I could do, then it's not at all worth it to me, lol.

When I get my makeup done, I'm open to whatever the artist has in mind. I do my makeup a certain way, but I love to see different interpretations of my "look." I think the main reason why women can be so picky is because they still want to look like themselves. One time I had my makeup done, it looked SO fab, but really unlike me. I still liked it and it was fun for the time being. :)

The times I've had my makeup done are all for photoshoot, and the I don't always have 100 percent control. I let them do what they do best! :) It always looks great!

I've only ever let one other makeup artist do my makeup for a photoshoots for her own makeup line and I hated how it turned out so much that I was completely uncomfortable the entire time. I guess you can say I'm skeptical because no one knows my face as much as I do and only I know what I like to accentuate and hide. Next time I will however make it a point to speak up and suggest what I think looks best.

I'm always scared it won't come out good. Because I have my way of doing things so when someone else comes and does it a diferent way I get a bit nervous lol.

I have never gotten my makeup done, but if I did I would pick someone who is crazy good like MakeupbyAnna! She is so awesome. if she did my makeup I would just sit back and relax.

I don't trust other people doing my makeup, so I've only had it done once in recent history... and I was TERRIFIED and super picky. This was for my best friend's wedding, and when I saw how terrible the other bridesmaids looked and how unprofessional the makeup artist was being, I tried to be clear about what I wanted, without sounding like a snob. I was just horrified at how unsanitary her tools were, how sloppy and careless she was with the other girls, and how rude she was being. I asked her if I could have her use my own makeup because my sensitive skin was accustomed to it, she refused... and of course (the other bridesmaids and) I broke out terribly from the unclean makeup. I asked her to be completely minimal and just give me (my signature) cat eyeliner, which she used a dull, filthy, pencil liner for since she didn't have any liquid liner in her kit, and some mascara. I had to redo my makeup in the bathroom while consoling two of the 4 other bridesmaids, who were in tears over how terrible they looked.

I would normally be open to anything and trust someone to do my makeup who claimed they were a professional (for over 20 years in this case!)... but once I saw the first two bridesmaids in tears over how terrible their makeup looked, how unsanitary she was being with her makeup, and how rude she was being, I just could not let myself trust her to do my makeup. Cleanliness and a good attitude would have changed that for me!

Natalie omg! I'm sorry to hear that! And yes cleanliness is a pet peeve of mine everything must be clean.I especially hate it when an artist seems snobby I personally love people :) so I always approach with a smile because after all the goal is to make the client feel beautiful and confident and not everyone sees the same thing so artists should be very open minded. The same thing happened to my sister for a pin up photo shoot the makeup didn't look terrible but it wasn't amazing she could have done it herself and the tools were disgusting, old and thrown together in a giant ziplock bag -_- but anyways live and learn :)

One thing I do notice is that makeup artists can't cover my severe dark circles as well as I can. I have a whole technique lol. And they always want to make my eyes look round with a ton of eyeliner on the bottom. I used to get my makeup done all the time a couple years ago when I did a lot of modeling jobs and I didn't have a say, a lot of times I didn't look that great but I didn't really care.. Wasn't the end of the world. Whenever I get my makeup done at Mac though I always like it. I had Mac makeup artists for 2 fashion shows I did and they were the best makeup jobs I ever had.

Yes. I've had make up done by so called artists and wasn't any better than I did. Actually it was pretty bad. I don't trust a soul with my face anymore lol.

Thanks Rosie and Jacqueline. I think after that experience I am actually more open to having someone do my makeup, because I won't be afraid to speak up next time... I really didn't want to offend the bride since she paid for everyone to have their makeup done and I feel like she would be the one who would be hurt, not the makeup artist. I probably wouldn't have known any better if I wasn't on Beautylish so much! But after reading about all of your ladies experiences in the professional world, I knew something was not right when she was using mascara, lipstick, lip liner, and eyeliner ALL from the tube with their applicator and not wiping makeup in between or using disposable applicators/cleaned brushes for applications (the communal mascara especially skeeved me out). And the crazy thing is she has AMAZING reviews on the internet-not ONE single bad one... so I don't know if she didn't take us seriously because we are all young (early-mid 20 somethings) or if the reviewers just don't know any better about sanitary makeup practices... =/
