So about four months ago, I dyed my hair with some clairol mahogany brown color and within the next day or two my ears started getting itchy and swollen. My neck and back and scalp felt like it was on fire and I rushed to the ER that night. They told me I had an allergic reaction but they didnt say what specifically caused my reaction. I assume since I dyed my hair and my ears and neck and scalp was itchy, it could've been that. I promised myself that I wouldnt dye my hair again but now my hair looks crappy and I would like to dye it dark brown with Garnier OLIA. Should I try it again? I need help 😩

I would give it a try but I would get it done by a professional so that it doesn't get all messy and on your ears. Plus it could've just been that brand you used.

You could have an allergy from any dye, this is why you must do an allergy test before.
I had allergy once. Imagine blonde hair and bloody scalp)))) But is was from a dye I used for years and happened just once, so you never know:-)

I'm just nervous it was the worst feeling ever, but my hair neeeeds to be retouched again. Have any of you ladies tried garnier olia? I heard its a lighter less damaging than others because of oils..

I've never tried it but it could've just been that one brand you used and since this is a less damaging brand it may not cause a reaction but you never know until you try, but what I would do just to make sure is do one strand of hair at a time to see if it starts to have a reaction and if it does then you know not to do it anymore.

Should I just put a small amount on my skin? Instead of my hair? Wouldn't I react to it with skin contact? Sorry for all these questions, I just need some advice or help girlies 🙍

I would put a amount on your skin to see and if there isn't a reaction I would do a small section of hair instead of a big section of hair just in case it's different on your hand then your hair.

Its the brand. I used the same brand different color and the same thing happened to me. I've never had a reaction to any color so it freaked me out. its never happened again tho I just refuse to use that brand. I'm in cosmetology school so I color my hair A LOT and I broke out in an itchy rash on my ears and around my hairline and back of my neck it was awful the skin started to peel like a sunburn or something but it was definitely the brand so you should be okay coloring your hair with another brand just test a strand of hair first with the color you get

Thanks girls! I'd really like my hair darker for he holidays, my hair color has faded since my last incident and I'm just worried I'd get another reaction. If I do try a patch test within 48hrs, does the box dye still work or do I have to buy another one? 😕

Michelle, mix just a half of tea spoon of color and developer, not all dye. or depending on proportions, but usually it,s 1:1:-)

This has happened to me too. You can't scratch or it gets worse, and make sure you don't leave the dye on for a min longer than it says!!
