Just make sure you keep it healthy. I have kind of a long explanation about it, if you're interested.

Try not using heat products, and deep conditioning twice or three times a week. No sulfates shampoos either! They strip your hair of essential oils and moisture!

As usual, Velen is right! It's all about nutrition. There are some foods that will help with hair growth, soy, for example.
I had the same problem years ago and I used to tie it up so tight that my eyes hurt. That kind if helped but it hurts. Try with soy better.

For growth, drink plenty of water daily and eat more proteins, fruit and veg (dark green veggies are the best). Massage your hair every day, wet or dry for about 10 mins and flip your head upside down for 20 seconds so that you can promote circulation in your scalp. Once or twice a week, massage your scalp with almond oil and leave it in for 15-30 minutes before washing it out. A healthy treatment does a lot to make your hair healthy, I use an argan oil from pro naturals and it works great.

Hair is a waste product like your nails and grows at the average 1/4 inch per month with the occasional hormonal increase once a month. I recommend keeping up with regular trims, using good products, and like Vivienne said drink water and eat healthy. It can seem like forever just have to be patient unless you're able to purchase and maintain hair extensions? That's the only quick fix I can think of.
