I've seen all these people say that acrylics really bad for your nails and stuff, so I want to know if its ok to get acrylic nails. My nails take forever to grow and I have a really bad nail biting problem so for my birthday I thought it would be nice to get acrylic nails, but are they really bad and if they are what should I get that would give me the length (about medium length not to long but not short either) and durability of acrylic?

I wouldn't say they're "bad" for your nails but it does damage them. Not permanently, of course. However, it leaves your nails weak and very thin. Like Soriya said, if you don't plan on keeping up with them they aren't really worth the one time considering the damage and how it leaves your nails looking in the end.

My nails takes forever to grow & I bite my nails.
I use to do acrylics but it is pricey & after awhile your nails get brittle. Plus I like the look of my natural nails.
I heard gel nails are good, but I haven't tried them. Currently I get a shellac manicure. Which I love. It can be as expensive as acrylics but I like the results & it has helped my nails grow & shape nicely. Plus, it helped me stop biting my nails. Either one you choose I think every girl should take time to pamper themselves. (:

On a chemical level, all nail products including polish are not that different.
The key is proper application and removal.
like Greg from Yong Nails says "It's the fools who do the damage, not the tools"!

I totally agree after posting this I looked it up and saw that since you nails are made from dead materials they don't need to 'breath' and that if your nails are super weak and stuff that's its from over buffing and stuff.

if you take your acrylics off the right way they wont get damaged. some people just pop them off and thats what makes the nails so thin.

They are not that bad, your nails do grow fast with them on but become kinda weak. I would take mine off every few months to let them breathe.

Acrylic nails are awesome! I know people say that it really damages your nails and stuff but honestly I don't think so. Or maybe it could be my nails in general? Because I take care of them?
Anyways, durability: I've done acrylics numerous times before but this time (I have acrylics on right now) is the first time that I have treated then so bad. I've done many things to my nails like bang them hard against something and I really hurt them. These things would have made my natural nails break, and my nails usually don't break. But the acrylics are strong as ever.
Another thing that can really damage your nails is if you pull them off instead of going to the salon and having them take it off for you. If you pull the fake nails off your nails then you can really really damage your actual nail, maybe even pull it off. So I recommend to not do that.
I also recommend to not take your nails off at home using remover because sometimes they don't always come off of your natural nail, so don't try and save a buck, and just go to the salon and have them remove it for you.

Shellac is gel polish titi; and it is the best for stopping nail biting. It keeps your nails strong without buffing and drilling off layers of your natural nail.
