what do you mean by fail? your hair doesn't hold the waves? or you dont like the wave patterns? if you have really straight hair (1a/1b/1c) your sock wave wont be as good as people with naturally wavy hair (2a/2b)...also if you dont already prepare your hair before putting the bun (slightly damp hair with some kind of curl forming leave-in/cream-serum) the wave will stay long...also the placement matters...most of the people make the bun of top of their head, which makes my hair hair really fluffy specially in the napes...so i personally do it in my nape, as close as my neck as possible which gives me nice waves in the end but straight on top loose waves...so point is, you just have to keep practicing till you can perfect the sock bun that works for you :)
