Spot treatment ointment is really effective. Especially if you put it directly on the acne spots at night. It dries them up and you wash it off in the morning and continue your face wash routine. Some spot treatment creams are stronger than others with either more or less salicylic acid in it. Find on that is right for you, i use either pharmacy brand or Neautrogena!

You need to moisturize everyday 2-5 times a day! With all natural skin care preferably with essential oils. Look for a beauty salon or aesthetics salon that sells yonka. I swear by their products. They are from France, expensive but worth it. They smell so good. I've been using it since I was 12.

I have had acne my entire life, and I know my comment is going to sound like something you've all heard before, its absolutely true. Proactiv is the only system that has ever worked for me,or come close to it. If used everyday as directed,I will have zero breakouts and my skin seems to be less oily too. For my money,Proactiv is the only thing I will use to treat my problematic skin.

Proactiv is actually really bad for your skin though. It dries it out. Even the moisturizer dries. My cousin has bad acne and she used it everyday exactally as directed and has for years but recently has made it 10 times worse. You need to eat clean drink water and use all natural extremely hydrating moisturizer.

I'm seconding Avery's comments, but with an addition: all natural is the ONLY thing that ever helped me after my acne went cystic. Get some rice bran oil or grape seed oil from your supermarket (yes, the stuff you cook with). Use oil cleansing method & for a week put *nothing* else on your skin. If it starts to work, try your absolute hardest to avoid anything with synthetic chemicals in.

You can then also try different oils (or mixtures) to see which suit you. I'm suggesting those two as a starting point because they're light & reasonably dry, so they won't feel too odd & they're easy & cheap to buy, so you're laying out a bunch. Hope it gets better :)

Doh. So you're *not* laying out a bunch. Obviously :)

Get a professional facial and get advice based on your skin type. Proactive and marykay tend to make breakouts more red, especially for sensative skin. Many people say to stay out of the sun but for me it helps to dry out zits and pimples. You can use aveeno or any sunscreen if your preference with SPF of 15 as a moisturizer for protection

Until recently, I have had TERRIBLE acne and disgusting oily skin. I have tried everything- I'm talking Neutrogena, Clean and Clear, Proactive, Murad, etc. Just a while ago, I tried to change my approach to my skin. Instead of trying to strip my face of oil and use harsh products (which first dried out my skin because it's pretty sensitive, then made my face create even MORE oil to overcompensate), I decided to go with gentler products. So far, my face has cleared up tremendously and it's still getting clearer, while still calming it. Here's what I did/recommend:

Cleanser: Try going with a gentle cleanser with no acne treatment in it. This will just cleanse your skin and get rid of bacteria, which will help the other products work better. I use Formula 10.0.6 face wash (it has lots of great ingredients), but anything like Cetaphil's DermaControl or Aveeno is great.

Toner: Use something soothing with a bit of SA in it to help clean pores while still maintaining moisture. I use a DIY toner with green tea and sea salt, which has helped me more than any other store bought toner- it has calmed my redness and helped my oily skin.

Mask: Anything with clay to draw out impurities will work (Queen Helene, Freeman's). I personally use Aztec Healing Clay, which is my HG and has been the #1 factor in my clear skin. It's super cheap and works amazingly (you can feel your face pulse as it's drawing stuff out). Only use a mask 1-2 times a week.

Treatment: Anything with SA ~2% will work. DO NOT use Benzoyl Peroxie, it is the worst thing to put on your skin and is harsh and can cause cancer. I learned that the hard way with redness and peeling. I use Yes To Tomatoes repairing acne lotion, it has a bunch of other good stuff in it to help.
Moisturizer: Use a non-clogging, lightweight moisturizer with a tad of SA if you need it. I use Clean and Clear's. Make sure you moisturize every night, as it is necessary for healthy skin.

Spot treatment: Anything with SA is good for trouble spots. I use a C&C product, but I can't remember which. Only put this on specific areas, not your whole face, as it can cause drying.

Scrub: Only use a scrub 1-2 a week, and something that is not harsh (St. Ives is a big no-no, it causes tearing of the skin). A sugar and honey scrub is my favorite and it is natural too!

In addition to all of this, eat healthy, drink water, and excersie at least a few times a week (sweating is good for getting the gunk out of you). And remember, gentler is better with targeted treatment. If you dry out your skin, it will overproduce oil to compensate and make it even worse. I hope this helps! :)

UGG trust me I can totally relate to this. I tried every cream, gel, mask, everything! It dried out my skin, but I could never moisturizer it because it would break out more. I finally made an appointment with a dermatologist who put my on pills twice a day and 2 different creams. It took about two weeks of feeling like sunburn was on your face, then pure bliss. There aren't any products that will treat your skin if they haven't worked already. You probably have combination acne. Lol sorry for the novel good luck :)

Thanks everyone yeah I was thinking of going all natural for my skin and seeing if my skin benefits from that. I'll probably get a prescription to help clear the acne though :) thanks for the help
