So I'll be getting highlights professionally in a few days. my base color right now is reddish brown from when I dyed my hair red 5 or 6 months back but I haven't dyed it since. I really don't like how my hair looks with highlights on reddish hair. I prefer brown. so my question is , should I dye the brown over the red and will the highlights come out good even though I had reddish hair before the brown? and what color brown should I buy from sallys? and should it be semi , demi , or permanent?

You should let your stylist color it brown for you. The highlights may have a hard time lift and cause more damage to your hair if you color it before hand. plus red tones are hard to get out. a professional will know exactly what to use to keep those red tones out.

Agree with Kelly...I've had some hair disasters when dying my own hair Brown...I have natural red tones in my hair and everytime I would dye it Brown it would enhance the red even with an ash color

Definitely a permanent and it depends on what kind of brown are you looking for? It will be a deposit only so you don't need to lift it you can use 10 volume. What color highlights do you want? Hope that helps some... ")

Getting hair done by a professional would be best. Color Correction costs a lot more than getting it done right the first time from trained stylist who has knowledge of bases, color wheel etc..
