I keep trying to grow my nails out fairly long, but when ever I do my nail starts splitting at the end and gets worse until I have to cut it short again. Any ideas as to why this is happening/how to get rid of it?

Same problem here! I just put nail oil/cream on them every day and it really helps! <3.

It may sound odd but don't cut them! My nails used to be weak but I figured out that if I stopped cutting them they won't break or slit as much. Instead file them, it takes a while but trust me your nails will be beautiful! Also, square them instead of rounding them and use cuticle oil and nail oil or creams like Nina said(: hope that helped!

Sounds like they are dry. apply a cuticle cream and massage it into your nails every day. make sure you keep your hand moisturizes. they make treatments for your nails that fix problems like that. opi makes a bunch. also if you tend to use a lot of cleaning products at home or at work it makes other worse. I wear gloves when I clean because the cleaners Cause my nails to Peel.

Yes! Do what everyone else is doing but use a clear nail polish every other day, daily, or weekly! I did that and my nails could grow properly and the polish I use strengthens the actual nail, try Sally Hansen strengthening and growing nail polish.

Literally takes less than two minutes of your time, including applying it.

Yeah I've tried that Sally Hansen treatment thing. They had a nail strengthener one. My nails are really soft and used to keep splitting as well but the treatment worked soooo well!

If your nail is at the length you like and it splits or breaks, try mending it with a teabag and some nail glue. Cut a piece of the bag off, apply the glue to the nail where the split is, apply the teabag piece, then another coat of glue. Let that dry and file it/buff it down. It works all the time for me.
