So I'm about to dye my hair magenta and film only my 3rd ever youtube video while I'm doing it. Should I explain as I record or should I play music and include written word on the screen or record me doing this then add the words later?

Can you record, then put a vocal track over it later? Or record talking parts you edit in between the action that explains what you're about to do step by step.

Yeah thats what I mean doing a voiceover. I've never done one before but I kind of like it when I see one. is that what you think I should do then bree?

The most important thing IMHO is that you clearly lay out the steps. So spend the bulk of the video doing that. I would imagine that means you wouldn't actually need to show or film the entire process, just like your set up, the mixing, your beginning application, then maybe pick up somewhere half-way for a check in on how things should be progressing and then again at completion of the bleaching application. Discuss wait time, show how to test for readiness, then maybe just explain rinsing/washing. Then start the process all over for the color deposit process?

Voice overs are easier to film, in my experience, but Bree had great points. Either way is fine so long as you don't skip any steps. One of my biggest frustrations with watching videos is when the person is at step 3, and then they're suddenly at step 6 and they assume I know how to do the steps they skipped. What if I don't? Always assume you're catering to beginners, even if you're not. Watchers appreciate clear, concise, and thorough explanations. Good luck!

So I finished the video! Thank you for all your coments! Will you tell me what you think? I'm worried I may have sped it up too much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBumijrThaw.
