I heatless curl my hair every night, with pin curls, braids, twist buns, everything!! My hair is super frustrating, and nothing holds longer than an hour! I've seriously considered getting a perm, and I would like to know what you guys think/know about them. Pros, cons, and dangers? Thanks.

Why don't you curl your hair with a curling iron it'd last a lot longer? Don't have the time? Just curious.

First of all you can't perm your hair if it isn't virgin. It's supposed to be virgin and healthy because the chemicals really take a toll on your hair and if you get bleached/dyed it or if it's heat damaged it's going to fuck up your hair might even possibly fall out.

Yeah, I don't have the time, and it really only lasts maybe half an hour to an hour longer and it really isn't worth it for me. :(

I feel ya it's time consuming ):

From my personal experience I suggest not getting a perm. I went ahead and got it, and it did not hold thoroughly, so I ended up with semi straight, semi wavy hair. I promise you, that now it seems tough to create heatless curls, but later on if you want straight hair, it is soooo much more work! Perms can end in beautiful results but are VERY damaging to hair, especially later on you will find yourself using more product, and heat to maintain frizz, and to get that occasional straight hair. Not to mention the struggle to maintain a perm, between tangling frizzing and knotting. I say do not get it unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure. It is sooo much more easier to create heatless curls than to maintain a perm.

I've considered getting a perm myself expect I've bleached it more than once so I can't ):

Yeah, I bleached it once 4 years ago, but I dye my hair every couple months. :(

I say you should get one. Mine lasted two years. It depends on which product you get to see how long it will last. The one I had wasn't supposed to last that long but the chemicals barely harmed my hair. Plus you can always permanentely straighten it too. I did that when I got tired of my curly hair and still have it.

I HATE the way my hair looks when it's straight, it drives me nuts. :( Was your hair dyed at all, Violet?

Have you tried damp rolling with 2 inch soft rollers overnight?

You can always go smaller, based on hair length and tightness of curl desired.

Zoey you have amazing hair don't ruin it! it looks just great the way it is but if you ever feel like giving it a little twist just use a curling iron and secure with hair spray.

No, I've never tried overnight rollers, because I always found it difficult to get them to stay in all night. Do you have any tips, Roz?
