Makeup is a bit depressing.

I tend go get all caught up in how beautiful makeup is. How fun it is to try new things and test out new looks and products...but then something or someone reminds me about all the harsh and cancer causing chemicals that are in the products we use each and every day...and it just depresses me a bit...and makes me seriously consider dishing out a lot of $$ on all natural organic makeup because I don't think I can stop completely. Have any of you considered this? Do any of you think about this or take it into consideration when buying products? Or do you just like to ignore it and pretend it isn't real like I have been?

I really don't think about it that much, only because I feel like everything causes cancer now. Just use good brands, don't be cheap with your skin. Wash your face really well at night, take care of it. You should be fine.

I've never heard of someone with cancer caused by make up, but if we had to ditch everything that causes cancer, we would have to live in a cave in the middle of nowhere... if I were you, I wouldn't worry so much about it!

I don't really see any problem with "chemicals" unless there has been extensive scientific research about them causing harm to the human body. There are chemicals in products we use that are bad, but the concentration is so low that it's really not a concern.

For example, Duo lash glue contains Formalin. DMDM Hydantoin and Diazolidinyl urea are Formaldehyde releasers, and are found in a lot of the products we use everyday. The amounts are minuscule. Usually ranging from 0.00004 to 0.01000%. A pear also contains naturally occurring formaldehyde. A pear weighs about 100g, so when you eat it you are swallowing about 0.006g of formaldehyde in a few minutes. Pears are perfectly safe to eat.

Natural does not mean "healthy" or "safe". The term "natural" is really unregulated. Natural does not mean "effective". It can be all of those things. It can also be neither. This also goes for the word "chemical". It doesn't mean bad or dangerous. The body runs on thousands of chemical reactions, after all. But that doesn't mean that "chemical" is better or worse than "natural".

I do avoid parabens because they do cause problems, specially in anything going directly to my skin (like powder, foundation & blushes) but other than that, I don't mind them because they are in very small quantities.

Organic make up doesn't mean you have to pay up the butt. Faerieorganic.com was featured in a high end magazine who's name I cannot remember ( I think it was Elle ). But it's a great brand. :-)
