What is it like?

Makeup wise, it can go from doing almost nothing but perfect skin to intricate tribal patterns. It's a lot of fun because you almost never do the same look twice.

Backstage, can get hectic. Most times there's no room, no light, no air. You can be there for like 12 hours before you eat. A lot of frustration, more on the key artists and production side.
A lot of times you're struggling for symmetry since while you're doing makeup your model may also be having her hair done.
Sometimes you may not have the right color which is ugh.. All of that for your model to walk for like 2 minutes.

But honestly it's sooooo fun. It's a great way to meet other artists. Network with designers models photographers. It looks great on your resume you can get awesome runway shots of your work. And be paid in products which is like the biggest perk of all. :)

I've modeled for a like charity fashion show (it was big) and I would say Carolyn H. Is right! It's very hectic!
