I asked because my brother-in-law (who lives with us) has a dance company and always has the girls do tight buns, then they wrap a thick black braid made out of yarn around their bun, then wrap a yarn and ribbon braid with big elaborate flowers around the other braid and bun. But it's folkloric mexican dance and when he does other stuff like ballet and contemporary then they don't have to wear headpieces.
hmmmm, well for practice maybe a regular bun or chignon or a braided updo

Then for performance you also want to keep your hair up so it doesn't distract from your dancing, so maybe a more elaborate chignon with twists or waves to make it look more elegant..

Just make sure your hairdo is very tight so it doesn't fall apart while you dance. :)
