Well I'm really close to my nephew whos now 6 but I didnt have that much money for his birthday last year so I found out everything he was into.. hulk, spiderman, ninja turtles, hotwheels... ended up buying him something as small as hulk hands cause he loves to wrestle.. and out of EVERYTHING he got... he loved my hulk hands the best :) something so small but something he really wanted made him so happy.

But my point was I don't see my nephew much, and he chose for his bday to have a party at chuck e cheese to see his family rather than get a nintendo ds and he was super excited... Don't know if that helps you?... But I also let him pick out a leapfrog game for himself.. I did give him a limit.. also some little squishy stuff to play in the bath.. just a bunch of little things he liked and never saw before and he was happy with that.
