Just keep it healthy. Bear with me, this will be a long explanation.
First, trim any split ends you have. Nothing will put them back together, and they will just keep splitting up the shaft if you don't trim them off now.
Second, invest in a good sulfate and sodium chloride free shampoo and conditioner. Personally I like the L'oreal EverStrong line, it smells nice and works well. Also invest in a hair mask or deep conditioner. I like Aussie 3 Minute Miracle and Macadamia Deep Repair Masque.
In the shower, wash your hair first thing. Use shampoo on only your roots, and conditioner on your ends (think anywhere below your ears). After that, apply your deep conditioner, focusing it on the ends and minimally throughout the rest of your hair. Finger comb out any tangles you feel. Put your hair in a bun and leave it that way until the end of your shower, and then rinse out your deep conditioner with cold water.
Aside from that, try to refrain from using heat. If you feel like you have to use heat, use a heat protector like Tressemme Heat Tamer or John Freida Full Repair heat protector. Try not to brush your hair as much, as well. If you're finger combing in the shower you won't have as many tangles anyway. However, if you do have to brush your hair, DON't do it when your hair is wet; that's when your hair is weakest. You can also take vitamins to help your hair, such as biotin or fish oil pills.
I've been following this routine for a year. I cut my hair to chin length in March, and now it's back down past my shoulders.

Jenny - Prenatals do not make your hair grow and neither do any other vitamins. And telling an 8th grader to take supplements they do not need is not a good judgement call.
Nothing will make your hair grow faster. Your hair grows at a fixed rate determind by genetics. Using quality products and getting regular trims and taking care of it will not make it grow faster, but helps you keep it healthy and if it's healthy you will not have to cut as much off and it will not break off as much either.
