@Shelley, btw, I been flat ironing my hair for so long. As for as chemical base, I've bleached my hair in jan and I dyed my hair a couple of times but I haven't dyed my hair in a few months (really need to because my roots are definitely showing) but I'm not because I want my hair to gain back the healthiness and the length which was succeed so I'm happy with that result. Just trying to shy way from flat ironing my hair. I usually flat iron it once the after that I keep my hair in a wrap at night so I won't have to straighten my hair in the morning.
Does my curls look bad in the picture I posted up above??

I feel like we're the same person!
I'm also mixed, black and Puerto Rican. I'm just very fair skinned so everyone thinks I'm mixed with white.
My mom is Puerto Rican and clueless (love you mom) so we've pretty much tried every product in the book to tame my unruly hair when I was younger.
So far, Pantene products seem to work the best for me and that's what I'm using currently. I use the "Moisture" line. They come in white bottles. The conditioner is really good. When I wash my hair, I use this line and also Head and Shoulder dandruff shampoo because I tend to get dandruff from only washing my hair once a week.
My sister uses Pantene as well, but she used the Relaxed and Natural line, which comes in the brown bottle. I perm my roots, and my sister has never had a perm.
For a while we were using a product called "KeraCare" They have a detangling shampoo and something called the Humecto Creme Conditioner. We purchase them at the salon inside JC Penney. The shampoo loosens up my natural kinky curl so it's more like soft waves, and the conditioner made my hair feel like silk. My mom was convinced it was making my hair fall out though, so we stopped using it. I still use the conditioner on my hair extensions and it works wonders.

@Phylicia...I tried the curling gel as well and did not like it. Made my hair crunchy the first day but for second, third day wear it was great (especially after I spritzed some aloe vera/distilled water on it to cancel out the crunch). If I want to slick back my mane I'll the Smoothing Gel from the same line (no crunch). Since you've bleached it and been flat-ironing for awhile its definitely going to take awhile for it to head back into its natural state. Also invest in a silk or satin pillow case cover so you can lessen the amount of moisture loss and avoid hair breakage while sleeping at night. Your curls don't look bad but I can see in the pic where its straightened that the hair is aching for moisture. Just remember that you have to be patient and in time your mane will be an explosion of healthy curls. I'm Puerto Rican/ black and let me tell you its been a serious adventure to get my hair where its at now but so worth it. :)
