I want to go from dark brown to dark blue or purple (permenent). But do not want to bleach my hair and cause all tht damage. What products are best. Please be specific.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but I don't think that's possible. I could be wrong, I've never done my hair on my own, but it seems pretty impossible. I recently dyed my hair teal, and it grows out of my head black. I had to bleach the bejesus out of it in order to get any color to show up at all. Of course, that's my personal experience and I'm sure the ladies on here will have some lovely advice for you.

I have to second Hannah! I have naturally dark brown hair and I've been every color under the sun. Every time I've had to bleach it to lighten it. You could use one of Those box dyes in a blonde color but if your hair is naturally dark it probably won't lighten it evenly or all the way and the colors might show up weird

Maria, believe me (I'm a hair stylist of 13 years)...its not possible. no matter what you do you have to lift your hair. especially with blue. it its not light enough (I'm talking pale yellow with no orange) it will turn a mucky green color. you may be able to use a high lift color on your hair but generally that will lift to an orange. purple may be a bit easier to get because it won't need to be quite as light, but again if its too orange it will be a mucky purple. good luck!

I agree with these ladies. I'm also a stylist. If you do use a hi lift that'll lift that much then it's doing as much damage as bleach. A few lines like tigi and Schwarzkopf have a permanent purple color that I'm using now but it's not a Bright fashion rainbow type color. It's more of an eggplant tint on my dark hair. I haven't seen a permanent blue yet.

As someone who has tried every possible way to get bright hair from dark hair without bleaching, none of it works unless you use some sort of bleaching agent. I'd just go get it bleached in a salon and then use good deep conditioners. That's what I do, it didn't damage as much as I thought it would.

I am a blonde and I recently died the tips of my hair purple and I had to bleach the tips first to make sure it would stay in so honestly I think you would have to believe me I did not want to bleach my hair either.
