HELP! thinking of going blonde.

I've been wanting to go blonde for a very long time. I love the blonde that Beyonce has.
My hair is a very dark brown and I have never dyed it before, ever! I've asked a few stylists and they've all said no, it's too damaging. I fully understand it can be damaging but isn't any type of hair coloring damaging?
Now, I don't want to go with a caramel color or any type of light brown because I feel it'll wash me out, like Kim K when she does her supposed blonde. (Now, now I'm a huge Kim fan just not of her so called blonde colors lol).

Any tips on how to go about doing it? And any San Diego ladies have any recommendations on someone who is great with hair coloring?

Thanks!!

You should probably go a little darker than that since your hair is so dark it probably will take a couple of sessions to get that light. Also when you get it done try conditioning treatments after bleaching your hair and be ready for a trim! Good luck :)

I would say don't do it! You have beautiful, virgin healthy hair! Once you put bleach on it there is no return ( until you grow it out & chop it off) but if you must do it, go to a professional, pay the money to have it done correctly & the safe way! :)

I think your dark hair is beautiful but if blonde is what you crave I wouldn't risk a DIY at home because you're going several shades lighter than your hair I would advise professional hands. At a salon they can customize the color for you. I speak from experience...I wanted a caramel 'do and when I rinsed the color out my hair was a bright dirty orange. It took a year to grow it out and a ton of tlc to get it healthy again.

start by dying your hair one or two shades lighter every two weeks until you reach the color you desire. and make sure you are treating your hair as you go and even after :)

If it's something you're dead-set on doing, make sure you get it done professionally and take good care of it after. Going that many shades lighter can be very damaging.

Find a salon you like and see if they will do a strand test. That way they can see how light your hair will lift without too much damage; sometimes hair won't life that light (mine wont and I have almost black hair). That way you will have a realistic expectation

Oh my gosh your natural hair is gorgeous! But if you want to dye it, it's up to you. Also, think about WHY you want to dye it. :)

I would suggest getting blonde highlights. You will be damaging your hair pigmentation. Otherwise, if you want to color your hair blonde, get it done professionally.

It will be a process for sure. I went blonde a couple months ago and it was not easy. Suggestion bleach gradually it might not be pretty but for the health of your hair it will be worth it. I did it myself but I am licensed.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I'm still not 100% sure I can do it. I love dark hair but want to try something different just for the sake of doing it.
I really appreciate everyone's help, I won't get it done until I *know* it's what I truly want.

I would try a wig on some wigs in the color that you want before you do it because its such a big change lol

I also advise having it done gradually by going a few shades lighter every month or so to save your hair. Also be prepared for major upkeep since your hair is dark your roots will show quickly since I'm guessing your not Beyonce lol it might be a big financial commitment to go to a salon for color every month.

do not bleach your hair if you want to go blonde i say get a full weave and just bleach your crown portion to look natural.

first you must go to the salon and dye your whole head one to two shades lighter than your hair color now. then tell them to dye your hair to that blonde. make sure though the hair salon you go to is keen with colors and good quality hair dye otherwise it will damage your hair horribly. trust me. I went from black to a caramel and blonde color in one day, my hair did not get damaged why? I went to and spent my money on a real hair salon knowing what they ate doing. otherwise.... if you do not get it all done in one day, cone back a couple weeks after (during those couple weeks don't put any heat. apply hair mask and trwtment three times a week in those two weeks) than come back to the salon and get it bleached dyed or whatever or however the hair salon will make your hair lighter to the color of your photo of beyonce.

I agree exactly w Ericka. To achieve my honey loner w/o black or a toner. I brought a box of honey blonde dye..that turned it brown. 2wks later I redyed it the same box and it turned reddish cinnamon color. I dyed it again the next day bcz I couldn't walk around w that! Lol I use this hair mask conditioner you can find at Walmart. Called LeKair Cholesterol Plus it's orange in a jar 1.98 not bad! It strengths/conditions. Also makes my natural curly hair feel soft! I use that instead of shampoo. For shampoo I use Shea Butter Bar Soaps makes curls extremely soft. Then 2wks later I picked up the lightest blonde they had & FINALLY my hair was the color I wanted.!!!! Keep it conditioned, oil for shine & your 6wk trim & you'll be fine. I've had the blonde I wanted since April no problems here!! I use Revlon Color Silk bcz it's ammonia free 2.98 & the conditioner pack that comes w it is amazing. Smells soo good & makes hair soft! You'll need two boxes each time if hair is past shoulder length. Hope this helped Rye

Did you see the recent story about OscarPRGirl going blonde on Vogue's website? It might inspire you, it also had an amazing tip of going to a Wig shop first before deciding on what blonde you want to go for and matches your skin tone. Also there is an amazing colorist, the master of blonde, at Cristophe Salon Beverly Hills Cameron. He recently took Laura from Cycle 19 (current) of ANTM from brunette to icy blond. http://www.vogue.com/vogue-daily/article/blonde-ambition-oscar-pr-girl-goes-platinum/#1

I've been platinum blonde for 12 years its not easy, make sure you are.ready for the maintenance of it, it takes alot of time and money to keep it, but.thankfully I've mastered it and do it myself and my hair is a very dark.brown naturally, so before you do it consider that its very high maintenance as opposed to what you are used to.

Wow I hope you don't end up dying your hair because your natural hair and hair color are both sooooo pretty!!!
