Hi Beauties! I know a lot of you don't have this issue but any advice would be so appreciated.
My hair is 90% gray/white (it is colored very dark brown, which is what my color used to be) and my hair grows like a weed so I have to color VERY often ( I have serious roots by 2 weeks). I need a good routine to color myself in between going to the salon. I have purchased every box dye on the market and only found 1 or 2 (Feria and Revlon Root Erase) that actually cover my gray. It's VERY resistent to color and color easily washes out. I use permanent dye, I only color my roots and I only wash once/twice a week...my hair is SOOOOO dry and damaged from all the processing...i'm so frustrated....any suggestions on dye, root cover up, treatments etc....

side note on hair length/texture in case it matters. I have very long hair, its thick, coarse and frizzy...oh and i live in florida so pretty humid all the time...I do keep my hair covered if I'm at the beach and I use sunscreen for my hair if I can't cover it. xoxox

Hello! I'm a hairstylist & I have a few suggestions/options! you're hair needs some deep conditioning. if it is dry/damaged the color will fade right out after starting off too dark at first! Ask your stylist for a deep cond. treatment & purchase some good shampoo/conditioner & Argan oil for home use ! I love purology , joico & Redken brands. Have you ever considered going a lot lighter w the color?? Your roots won't look as drastic. if you love the dark too much, have you considered highlights to help blend the new growth? Last tip! Have you ever considered growing it out & rocking the natural color!? Why not? If you hate it, u can just color It! It might be beautiful. Good luck!! :)

Gray hair is starting to sprout out on me from the nape and my crown. And I'm 38 yrs old. Katie S offered some great advice and I agree with her when she suggested just letting your hair do its thing and rock the gray. I love seeing women rock the white strands...its beautiful. If you decide to go that route you will just need to brighten up the makeup a bit. At least then you can avoid dropping all that money on hair color and all the steps involved to protect colored hair. Just a thought. :)

Okay, after weeks of thinking and trying to figure out what I really want to do...i'm going to go lighter, not blond or anything but light brown with some fun red/pink touches, maybe an ombre kinda thing. I can't fathom growing the gray in, sorry, i just can't commit to that. I knew a girl who was my age and decided to let the gray grow out...i wasn't a fan...another friend is letting hers grow out, i'll say this, if I EVER decide to live as a gray haired human, i will shave my head and start fresh, NO WAY i could let it grow out with all those roots....oh god....am i being too dramatic....LOL! ;-)

Katie S. has made great recommendations! I just wanted to add one more thing, stay AWAY from box dyes!! Not only will they damage your hair but it will give your stylist a run for her money. Box dye jobs can turn into quite the process which in turn could end up costing you much more than you would be expecting to pay for a root touch
up :)

Thanks Lynsey, I agree Katie S had some great things to say. I already do most of the things she spoke about as far as care goes. I am getting my hair done by my stylist...now that I have moved, i am nervous about going to someone else...i'll get over it eventually, it's just that I travel home often enough that i "think" i can wait...haaaa
