Has anyone used Pure African Shea Butter as a heat protectant for their hair?

No and I wouldn't advise it. I imagine it would be too heavy on the hair. Heat protectant isn't really that special. It's just a light coating around the hair shaft so the hot tool burns the product and not the hair.

@Symone I can see your opinion but my hair tends to suck up a lot of product, but is there any particular reason why other than personal preference? I'm growing out my hair and right now heat protectant is very important. Curly hair for me always has to be washed everyday in order to style it ( Usually with just a conditioner... rarely shampoo... ) but it's getting chilly in Miami and I'm not for the whole getting sick over a wet head of hair, lol.

Oh, I'm in Miami too! My suggestion would be to try the Tressemme or John Freida Full Repair heat protectors. Both have been working pretty well for me.

Don't use Shea.
I use the tresemme one too. or one from sally called essence I think.. essentials? something like that.
my hair absorbs everything too. (water, heat, product. whatever) but don't use Shea.

It can potentially burn off your hair if you use a temperature above its smoke point

It will definitely burn!. take symones advice.
the best thing to do concerning heat treatment is deep condition before. use appropriate heat protectant spray to blow dry n flat iron. and I say appropriate because heat protectants with water in then shouldn't b used when you flat iron.
