Highlight and Contour Help.

I really want to learn more about highlighting and contouring.
I've only ever used powders to contour and to highlight I use Benefit's Watt's up and a light face powder.
I want to learn how to contour and highlight with creams/liquid products. Does anyone have any suggestions for good products and techniques? Do you do the H&C before or after your foundation? Do you use a brush, fingers, Beautyblender?
Also, I've been looking into purchasing Banana powder to set my undereye highlight, so if anyone has any input on that that would be great.

I use creme foundation or concealer , and I put it on my forehead by my hair line and the side of my checks and blend it out with a beauty blended!
