Hi all, I'm not a professional mua, but makeup is my passion and feel pretty confident with my makeup skills on myself. I'm debating if I should do my own makeup for my wedding to save money. Friends are telling me to hire a professional since I may be super nervous/stressed the day of and should get the "full experience" of being pampered.
Did you hire a mua or did your own makeup on your wedding day?

I had a MUA on my wedding day but I wish I'd done it myself, she did a really nice job but it was too natural looking (for my taste, lol!), back then I was too shy to request a do-over! If you decide to go for one, make sure you have a practice so you get the look exactly how you want - not how the MUA thinks it should look. Personally I know a few people that have done their own makeup and they've been fine, if you give yourself plenty of time to do it so you can fix any mistakes, go for it! Congratulations and good luck!!

We had a small budget for our wedding so a MUA was out of the question. I do have a friend with a passion for make up though and she offered to do it for me. she knows me very well and we spent time in the lead up to the Wedding experimenting so we were both confident for the day.
Good luck and congratulations!

I did my own (not professional) and I was very happy with it. Got exactly what I wanted 😉 So go for it, but practice your look first, so you don't get annoyed on the big day if something is not quite right 💜 Congratulations and have the best day!

Jill I think you should get a MUA - it's your special day, and you shouldn't stress over doing makeup! Pamper your self and let a mua make you absolutely beautiful :)

Jacqueline H. I know exactly what you mean and I'm sorry if I sounded negative or critical, I certainly didn't intend to if I did. I mentioned it as I do know of some MUAs (most notably my tutor at college!!) that kinda insisted that their way was the best way when it comes to weddings and ended up doing a look the client wasn't entirely confident with. As you say, any good make up artist worth his/her salt will work with you to make you look even more fabulous on the big day and will know what to take into account when considering photographs etc. The key is to make sure to have a trial / practice and make sure you're happy with the look and if you're not, say so!

Thank you everyone for the great feedback and well wishes. Took everyone's advice and set up a trial with a mua. If that doesn't work out, I'll do it on my own with tons of practice. Wish me luck!
