Yea it would. oil is better to use than heat sprays. oil takes longer to burn and sibce it creates a layer over you hair it protects your hair a lot more.

But oil heats up a lot faster thus causing your hair to get hot and fry. If its on long enough.

I have that. I don't like it that much but I use it as a leave in oil treatment. It wouldn't work as a heat protectant.
