It might be the foundation you are using or you might be applying too much. To minimize make sure you use a good cleanser and wash your fave every night I recommend okay fresh effects shine shine go away that's the one I use it's great.

I say use a sponge like the beauty blender, and if the foundation is very think blend it with mosturizer and I use a stippling brush to blend it where I get more cakey.

Right now I'm just using a regular flat foundation brush, and I will try a stippling brush!!

I agree with Zaira use a stippling brush. Try the Sonia kashuk flat top brush. Not sure what it's called but in the back it says to use it with liquids (:
