Has anyone gotten a perm before? I want beachy mermaid hair so I was thinking about getting a perm!

1. How much do they generally tend to be?
2. Is it very damaging?
3. How long did it last for you?

Btw I have long black/brown hair if that helps :)

They are damaging :/

They are damanging but they make your hair super curl, my tia has one.

1. Pretty damn pricey
2. Very damaging. For both ways ( Straight to curl and curly to straight ) Lots of hair will fall out, becomes brittle, sometimes it doesn't even work for some people cause the stylist can fuck up easy
3. Not that long. About 4 months.

Very damaging! For a hairstyle that will last a few months bit really worth it

1. It's not too bad, I'd get it professionally done though...
2. Yessss
3. About a year, then I repermed it straight, because I had awkwardly half curly half straight hair
I wouldn't get it, if I were you. It gets really hard to style, and (at least in my case) doesn't give the really pretty beach waves

Thanks for the help everyone! Yeah I guess I won't get it because I don't want super damaged hair, although perms do look pretty.

Hi Julia, I had a perm this summer and I really like it! I'll try to persuade you that it isn't such a bad thing... :D Soo my story - when I was planning to have it done, everybody said to me that I will damaged my hair a lot and that it isn't worth it... but you know mostly it was people who never had it or had it done badly. Now I am glad I wasn't listening to them and the best funny fact is that finnaly after all some of them want curls like me haha :DD I have very long hair and they aren't very damaged now only just a little. But I must say I hadn't got a classis perm (for half a year) but a relieved one ( for +/- 3 months). So this can be a good choice for you too because it doesn't damage like classic one (it washes out with a time). Also make sure to go to very good proffesional hairdresser!! If you pay more you shouldn't end up with wrongly done it with burn and damaged hair!! This the most important key I think + you should buy a good nutrition shampoo and other stuff for curly hair from a good brand - again less damage for hair. What I can say more - basically you can't comb your hair with a perm, so you still have small "wet" curls and for the other type of curls you must style it!

Ops, that was pretty long... anyway if you want to know something more about it just ask me :)) I'll answer if I know.

Thanks so much Juana! I didn't know you could get another perm besides the classic one! I'll research more on the Internet and I will definitely ask you questions if I'm stuck. :)
