I recently talked to a skin care professional and asked him for product recommendations. This is what he gave me!
Basis, Purpose, or Clinque bar soap, liquid if you don't like the feel of bar soap. The first two are in drugstores. A toner with witch hazel, don't bother using anything else-it won't do anything for your skin. A moisturizer for your skin type: oil-free (preferably a gel) for oilier skin like the green Garnier in the jar or Clinique DDMG, creamy lotion for combination (usually in a pump bottle), and thicker cream (usually in a jar) for very dry skin. If you have the means, a Clarisonic or the Olay knock-off brush is THE most effective tool to get your skin clean and bright, use it with whatever face wash you like. Lastly, if you have a concern with acne, the products you need depend on the type you have. An occasional breakout (one or two a month) would only need a spot treatment with 2% salicylic acid used morning and night until the spot is gone. If you always have a couple and are never entirely clear, use a moisturizer with.5% salicylic acid so it will continue to work 24/7. The nasty, painful breakouts need a face wash with Benzoyl peroxide and a spot treatment with either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl will dry you out like crazy, so have a light touch, use only what you need. If that combo does not show results in one month, go to the dermatologist, nothing OTC is going to work.

That's how my routine has been for the past few months and it works. Only thing I do different is to use a cleansing oil to remove my makeup before using the cleanser.

This is what I do and it's perfect. I also do a baking soda scrub every few days!
