Not a big expert on this but stay away from straightening and skip blow drying if possible or blow dry on cool if possible. The hairs that are fried on the top are awful to deal with. If you are embarrassed by them maybe wear a thick head band.

Let your hair dry completely before messing with it as far as putting it up a stuff. The particles are extra sensitive when wet. You don't want to make them angry and break off.
