Biotin is just a b vitamin. Pre-natal vitamins do the same thing and are cheaper. I used biotin in the past and it takes a while for your body to adjust so I didnt see any real progress til the 3 month I took it.

My feeling? People need to stop randomly raiding the supplement section of their grocery and see a doctor. Certain supplements can cause interactions with prescriptions, and can create an overdose of a certain mineral/vitamin in your system. People should always consult a doctor before starting a new supplement; particularly with things like prenatal vitamins, which have been show to negatively impact fertility when used outside of pregnancy. At best you are wasting money on vitamin enriched urine (because that's where all of the excess your body doesn't absorb ends up); at worst you end up with a severe health issue caused by a drug interaction or an overdose of one thing or another.
If you really want healthier hair or nails or skin: eat a healthy and balanced diet, exercise, and use proper hygiene. Nothing can increase the rate of growth for hair or nails- that is determined by genetics. Having proper nutrition from a healthy lifestyle and reducing damage is the only way to increase net growth (for both hair and nails).
