I have light skin, I am a natural redhead. Many foundations don't match my skin, or make me look too cakey, and throughout the day it "melts" and really doesn't look good. how can I make my foundation last all day? also what are good foundations for light skin? thanks!

Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Combination skin! I swear this product is better than some high-end ones. I have had the same problem where throughout the day my foundation starts separating leaving embarrassing blotches around my nose/cheeks. I used to use Kat Von D Lock it Tattoo foundation, but I haven't thought twice about going back since I discovered this product, its half the price and same or even better quality. I work 12 hour days and when I get home my face looks the same as when I just left :] Always moisturize
before using any foundation, and use a primer and a setting spray if needed. I hope this helps!

I know how you feel about the fair skin, very few brands do my shade. However Estée Lauder has foundations in very pale shades and they have double wear light which gives good coverage and doesn't go cakey. I generally find the low end make up ranges never have a light enough shade, another brand which has very pale shades is illamasqua

I also have very pale skin, and the best foundation that I have found is the urban decay naked color. the.5 shade matches really well. I've also heard really good things about the kat von d tattoo lock foundation, it has a lot of light shades as well :)
also make sure to add primer before applying foundation, and you can use a powder or setting spray. My favorite is the urban decay all nighter setting spray.
