If you're growing it out you should trim more often--probably every six weeks. You don't want to accumulate dead/damaged ends. If you're sticking with your length then 3 months between trimming the split ends is fine.

Wrong! lol if your growing your hair out you shouldn't cut it often because hair grow inch an hlf every month so if you cuz your hair every 3 months or 6 weeks your just cutting off watever grew those couple of months so try not to cut your hair too often trust me..I don't cut my hair at all and it keeps growing and growing..I only trim it myself unless it feels kinda dead but other then that I don't really cut my hair (:

I guess it depends on how damaged your hair is haha :) I did mine every six weeks or so (just the split ends) but that was after a long period of bleaching and heat styling.

Trim it every 8-10 weeks. You should be having around a centimeter taken off if you get it cut that often. Also, a lot of older hairstylists I work with that have been doing hair longer than I have say that if you get it cut on the new moon it makes it grow faster. They say it has something to do with the water in your body and what not. But, I'm just a professional hairstylist. What do I know? :P
