I don't know why this won't open on here. but if you go to the sire under press release for shampoo there is a list of shampoos containing cancer causing ingredients.

The link didn't open up for me either but I did locate several articles and a press release about it. I'm not one bit surprised by it though. It really wasn't helpful in giving the reader the listed product names...instead just manufacture names.

Oakland, CA-Today, the Center for Environmental Health revealed independent testing finding a cancer-causing chemical in 98 shampoos, soaps, and other personal care products sold by major national retailers. The chemical, cocamide diethanolamine (cocamide DEA), a chemically-modified form of coconut oil used as a thickener or foaming agent in many products, was listed by California as a known carcinogen last year. Products tested with high levels of cocamide DEA include shampoos made by Colgate Palmolive, Colomer,Paul Mitchell, and many others. In addition, products marketed for children and a product falsely labeled as organic were found with the chemical,in violation of California law.
CEH today filed a California lawsuit against four companies that sell products containing cocamide DEA, and the nonprofit has sent legal notices to more than 100 other companies that produce and/or sell cocamide DEA-tainted products that their products violate state law.?Most people believe that products sold in major stores are tested for safety, but consumers need to know that they could be doused with a cancer-causing chemical every time they shower or shampoo,? said Michael Green, Executive Director of CEH.?We expect companies to take swift action to end this unnecessary risk to our children?s and families? health.?
In addition to many brandname shampoos and personal care products (see the full list, below), the CEH testing found cocamide DEA in store-brand products purchased at Walmart, Trader Joe?s,Pharmaca, and Kohl?s. A store brand children?s bubble bath from Kmart and achildren?s shampoo/conditioner from Babies R Us were also found with cocamide DEA. Falsely labeled organic products from Organic by Africa?s Best also tested for high levels of the cancer-causing chemical; CEH previously won a legal settlement with this company requiring it to end its use of phony organic labels.
CEH has purchased the shampoos and other products containing cocamide DEA at Bay Area locations of major retailers and from online retailers since June, and commissioned an independent lab to determine the total content of the chemical in the products. In many cases, products contain more than 10,000 ppm cocamide DEA, and one shampoo tested at more than 200,000 ppm (20%) cocamide DEA. California listed cocamide DEA in June 2012 as a chemical known to cause cancer based on the assessment by The International Agency for Research on Cancer, which evaluated skin exposure tests on animals.
The Center for Environmental Health has a seventeen-year track record of protecting children and families from harmful chemicals in our air, water, food and in dozens of every day products. CEH also works with major industries and leaders in green business topromote healthier alternatives to toxic products and practices. In 2010, the San Francisco Business Times bestowed its annual "Green Champion" awardto CEH for its work to improve health and the environment in the Bay Area and beyond.

Read thru the list...the litigation is going to be insanely tedious. Those listed can claim they are transitioning their ingredients to fit Cali requirements and demand their own testing to disprove/prove the findings of what this watchdog group is reporting. I'm just playing devils advocate here but NOTHING is safe. We'd literally have to go back to living like cavemen if we seek to live a pure life free of chems. This kinda stuff doesn't scare me as much as what chemicals are going into a food supply. Now that right there freaks me out more than this list (luckily none of the products on this list are in my possession).

Very true Shelley. even still I'm going to look at the ingredients more now. unfortunately I use the organix line. even though the ones I use are not on the list, I checked out the ingredients and yup there it was. there getting trashed. going to have to find another line to use. even though there prob all tainted w something.

Creme of Nature shampoo is on this list and I remember as a kid my mom using it on my hair but then back in 1993 there was some rumor going around that said it contributed to premature hair loss. Mommy tossed that one in the trash. And a lot of these companies don't even manufacture in the here in the You.S. Places like China, & Mexico on equipment that wouldn't even pass here in the States because components contain lead (which gets leeched into products during mixing) and other lovely goodies. My husband is a cosmetic chemist and he's been to some pretty nasty manufacturing sites overseas. If I'm unsure about anything I just let him look it up because he knows what's up. Its very stressful as consumers trying to get unbiased information about the stuff we bring into our homes to consume or apply topically. I recently found out my skin can no longer tolerate products with phenoxyethanol in it. If its last on the ingredients list I'm somewhat OK but I can't use it everyday. My husband had the honor of tossing all my Too Faced bronzers, a Bobbi Brown moisturizing balm, sunscreens and few other things. Its a preservative that is used maintain the shelf life of a product. It sits high on the ingredient list for MAC foundations and I've broken out from every single one because of that single chemical. Some peoples skin can tolerate it but mine...no go.

No problem Traci I had to share. Your absolutely right Shelley, it is very stressful. just trying to figure out the ingredients in products to make sure they contain something that lives up to what the product claims it will do is hard enough. then to have to figure out which of those ingredients may be harmful is just too much!

Thank you for sharing this Danny. I'm such a nerd so I will probably follow this to see how it plays out in court. Very curious to hear what the companies have to say.

No problem Shelley. please let me know if you hear anything. I actually wrote to organix about this. wonder if they will respond.

GMOs, microwaves, aluminum/alumina, diet/sugar free foods, synthetically made alternatives are just the tip of the iceberg for cancer causing agents, Ladies! Our technology to creating a better future is killing us slowly. Just like Shelley said we'd have to live a "cavemen" lifestyles to be completely chemically free! Just remember to research everything before you buy.
