My hair is straighter in some areas like the front for instance but I usually get good twist outs depending on the product I'm using.

Have you tried doing Bantu knots? A little more time consuming then a twist out but I love 'em. Also, try Miss Jessie's curl pudding for your twisting styles. On her website she gives out free samples for just a dollar shipping and I love the stuff.
