I'm planning to mix crazy colours semi permanent hair dye in with conditioner to maintain my hair colour which is dyed ginger, how much dye will I need to put into the conditioner?

Does that actually work? I feel like it would more so just make a mess.

Really well. It helps if you wash in cold water as it stops the colour from running as much.

Haha half my post got cut off, I used to use a spoonful of dye into the conditioner and it mixed really well, but it's up to you how much you put in :)

Hi, I'm a cosmetologist! Putting a dye in your conditioner is dangerous. you could develop an allergy to the dye and have a really bad reaction some day in the future. buy sulfate free and shower in cold water. mixing kool aid in a conditioner is a much better idea if you're dead set on doing that. cheap box dyes and cheap shampoos are the leading cause of color fade so as long as you use quality ingredients your fade rate should be minimal. red however fades the fastest and is the hardest to get out so its a bit of an up hill battle.

What kind of dye are you hoping to mix in with conditioner? Dina pretty much said what I was thinking but, you're intending to use a non oxidative dye right? As in, no mixing required.
A picture of your desired ginger shade would help us help you with the amount. If its a very light color, we don't want you to go all little mermaid or anything :P
What I did when I had fire engine red what I did was use a tub of very very thick conditioner and I would get that conditioner two shades lighter than the color I had on my head, thus to give a touch of color without using a full bottle every week hehe
Hope this helps!

What color are you trying to maintain? The roux color refresh mask is awesome, the fire red keeps my hair vibrant! its a colored deep conditioner! in the red family there is fire red, copper and burgundy, the other colors are for blondes or brunettes! its at sallys for about $5, but if you like roux on facebook they have a lot of free giveaways!

I'm assuming you're talking about semi-permanent veggie dyes like Manic Panic or Special Effects? I've tried mixing it into my conditioner and haven't really noticed a difference at all. But using a sulfate free shampoo and washing your hair in cool water has made a huuuuge difference.
