This might sound like a silly question. But how does one write a guest post on someones blog. I mean how would they access my blog to write the post that would feature on my blog.

The person e-mails the post to you and you post it yourself.

You can also add guest contributors on blogger if they're to be a regular contributor. =]

The suggestion from Soma is a really good one because it gives your blog bigger feeling of popularity (if that's the right word). I like to see other peoples thumbnails or names to the guest post... BUT you could always start off with "here's what so and so thinks of this subject"
