Sarah, didn't realise you were in the UK, try Holland and Barrats. They have an amazing selection of products specifically aimed at acne prone skin. That's where I brought my tea tree face wash, vitamin E serum and vitamin capsules. It'll cost you around £18-£20 for all these products but I'd say it's worth it if the end result is better skin. Talk to the staff there, they helped me a lot. From personal experience bio oil broke me out :( for scars I'd recommend rose hip oil, lemon juice and vitamin E oil/serum. Let us know how you get on. x

Hi there, I had awful acne in my teens and early 20s. I actually took 3 courses of accutane which was a godsend! I have great skin now, bit unfortunately some lingering scars. I would say see a dermatologist to make sure your acne is completely gone as you don't want to add to anymore scarring. You also should see a plastic surgeon for the scarring. Over the counter stuff might improve your skin texture, but isn't going to take scars away. Lasers helped for me, but it was expensive and the results weren't as good as I expected.

I have the same problem and I started using a few things not long ago and it seems to be working really well! first of all use a good face wash- mine is from gigi I think. I got it after I had a face treatment. next, do face masks. the best ones in my opinion are clay masks and aspirin masks. I also use a face toner with antibacteriel ingredients, put tea tree oil directly on my spots before sleep and use a matifing face moisturiser before putting on my makeup. hope some of this will help you :) good luck!

After reading all the responses, maybe instead of a dermatologist you could maybe go to a medical spa? We only have one in my town, a plastic surgeon runs it but you can also get peels, facials, etc.

My thinking on this if you have one close, check into the price of a facial. They do have medical training to a degree. My understanding is that they start off as an esthetician and get training from a dermatologist from there ( at the least the one here). So, maybe go there for a facial. They won't be able to prescribe anything like a dermo. could but you can pick their brains and I'm sure they could give you some could suggestions.

Ps. You're beautiful.

Thank you to everyone who commented on this post you all have given me really useful tips and ideas on things which could help reduce my problem skin, I really appreciate it. Strangely this has given me a bit more confidence knowing I am not the only one with this problem!

Bozena thank you for sharing your pictures you should have confidence in yourself like every woman out there we may not be perfect but we all have different things that are beautiful about us... My skin I dislike but I love my eyes and hair and figure! I think everyone has posted useful things which hopefully other people with the same problem can use as wel. I hope you aren't depressed anymore xxx

Sarah, I wish you wouldn't feel so badly about your skin because you're gorgeous! I often see patients with similar concerns though, and there are a few things you can do to improve your skin's texture and tone- both over the counter and prescription, and all available in the uk (that's where I am too). a balanced solution with salicylic and/or glycolic acid (paula's choice 2% beta hydroxy acid liquid, paula's choice 10% alpha hydroxy acid liquid, philosophy's acid peel pads) can smooth the texture and improve the redness, and if you go see your gp he or she can prescribe isotretinoin gel which will clear up the spots, improve the texture and tone. vitamin e capsules or wheatgerm oil are also good ideas. please don't be afraid to see a doctor though -with or without your mask!- as we only want to help. :)

Sarah, How awesome the ladies here gave you some helpful resources and tips! Knowing you aren't alone makes a difference in your confidence. I do agree about seeing a derm in finding what it is and how to treat it. You have beautiful eyes and smile. I wish you best of luck. :)
@Shantele, Beautiful drawing.
Smile and stay beautiful, dah'lings.  :)

It looks like rosacea to me. My husband has it. His skin looks perfect everywhere else but his cheeks are red with some raised spots that one would think is just acne...but it isn't. His flares up if he eats something spicy,spends too much time in the sun and even cold weather will irritate it. I would definitely visit a dermo so you can get a proper diagnosis instead of risking further irritation trying different products. My husband is very self-conscious about it and his staff used to crack jokes and call him "Santa Claus". So I completely understand how you feel.

Good call @shelley w, and @sarah, your gp can diagnose or rule out rosacea for you as well, so if you do have that and he/she feels it's not a case of moderate acne scarring can outline foods and products to avoid and prescribe a metronidazole cream or gel for you to apply.
