Do any last without it? Or does a setting spray make it have the more smooth finish versus powdery?

You don't have to, but you should because it helps SO much. It doesn't let your face become shiny and it sets the foundation. If you use powder, it helps with shininess. I love the Rimmel Stay Matte powders or the Covergirl Clean ones as well. Try applying the powder with a kabuki brush, mine is from Elf for $6 dollars.

I use a setting spray as well just to make sure everything is in place and lasts me through our the day. Either Urban Decay Deslick setting spray or a little cheaper one is Elf for $6.

You use spray last?

Yep! Or for some people that's the very first product they use on their face. Either way works great!

I like it better with a skin finish over the foundation.. It's sets it ESP if you contour and high lighting

A spray has more of a skin-like finish to the foundation rather than matte. Powder can also get very cakey if you don't buy a good one/using a lot of it. Some people mix the setting spray into the foundation & that works too!

It depends on the foundation, if it sets to a matte/powder finish then no. If it stays tacky then you could set it with a powder suitable for your skin type (mines dry) and I set mine so it doesn't transfer and so I can use powder blush over it xx

A setting spray can be good but I'm not a huge fan I think they can actually make your face a bit sticky or patchy but they can take away an overly powdery finish to a very matte powder.

I either use setting spray or powder! Depending on the coverage I want.

I have such oily skin so I need to powder most foundations! But is all depending on your skin.

If you've dry skin, you don't need powder! Setting spray gives a more dewy finish instead of matte. When you use powder + setting spray, the spray helps to get rid of the powdery look as well.

It's not a necessity, but if you have oily skin I recommend it for two reasons: 1. your makeup will remain in place all day and you will have less shine. 2. (and maybe this is just me) tranferrance...your foundation can come off on your hands, clothes, or other surfaces if it is not set.
