Find photographers that are doing time for print, you'll exchange services for pictures.
Try modelmayhem
Stick to more natural makeup, a flawless face, a "bridal" look, maybe throw in a smokey eye so they can see your skills.
Its better to have a few great pictures 3-5
Then to have 10-15 amateur pictures.
They should all be professionally taken for a portfolio.

I'm not sure, you can try model mayhem too because there are gigs for all industry people.
I'm just unsure of what looks you would need for a hair port, I'm sure you can get into more funky looks tho

I've just started to creating mine! As a MUA. I used wix.com to create my own free website with some diferent pages (its so easy to do!) and I asked my friends to be my models and take them the pictures with the makeup looks. I did beauty makeup, fantasy, brides.. The home page, the "about me", contact and all this stuff. As Carolyn H. said I use to work with some photographers as an exchange of arts, any of us earn any money but we all can share the pictures of the photo shoot in our portfolios. Check mine out, you might have some inspiration! 😊 http://galanmua.wix.com/portfolio.

Can I as face charts or is that only when I have like a gig and want to show the look pod first?

I recommend creating a calling card when you have some pictures to work with. It should have your contact info, the styles of make up you do, and a few shots of your work. the photos should either be a little bit of everything or more focused (ie: bridal) Then you can leave these with potential clients or employers and they have a visual reference of your work along with your credentials.
You should always have a typed resume in your book but keep more handy to pass on to a potential employer. Just like actors leave a head shot with their info on the back/ attached to their photo- make up artist should do the same!

Also on those model mayhem sites there are also photogs looking to shoot things for their books too! Who says you have to wait for one of them to set up an idea? Make a few friends and invite a few models and photogs over. An indoor space with lots of natural light would be best. Have the models show up at staggered times so they can shoot one while you're working on another. By setting up the shoot you control what make up looks you have in your book and having so many models and photogs will give you a variety of photo options to choose from all while keeping the background uniform which can add great cohesion to your book. I feel that having collections like this can be a great asset in showcasing your work in a pleasing package but without letting the background take over the make up.
