I wouldn't say that using a paintbrush would be good for applying makeup. They tend to be rougher, so I'd think that maybe the bristles would hurt/damage your skin a little because they'd scratch a little bit (not that you'd e able to notice really). I imagine it wouldn't be so good for your skin! You should just invest in a good set of brushes that will last!

Were the brushes ever used with paint? If so, it probably isn't safe to use them on your face. Even thoroughly cleaned of paint, chemicals from the paints are absorbed into the bristles, and are not safe to expose on skin.

I have a set of art brushes for acrylic paint. I tried using them as eye brushes before I used them to paint with. They are synthetic brushes and barely picked up any pigment and were impossible to use, so I just started using them to paint with.

Yes its possible to use a paint brush thats soft enough. sometimes they're even better then brushes you can buy from elf. just test them to if they're soft enough. don't use brushes that have been used with paint not meant for the face.
