I'm really pale. And I used to burn easily, but this year I haven't got burnt at all, and I've been in the sun without sunscreen. I was wondering if a tanning bed would be worse? And if I should how long and such.? Thanks guys!

Tanning is worse than sun for your skin. Also , I would get really hot in there and felt trapped. You should start out at 6-8 minutes and work your way up for a few weeks (:

Tanning beds aren't that bad for you because you're in a controlled bed. And you choose how long you want to be in there. They're not any worse for you than the sun.

Tannin beds are MUCH worse for you than the sun because you are more exposed to the UV radiation and even if your only in there for a short time, the radiation levels are much higher.

I know that when it comes to tanning skin cancer is almost like a myth. Lots of people think of it like the chances of you getting attacked by a shark in the ocean. However, The Skin Cancer Foundation says that just one session increases your likelihood of getting a melanoma (which is the type of skin cancer that can kill you) by 20%.

A friend of mine developed skin cancer from tanning, so it is real. It does happen. And now she has to do regular check ups at the hospital and undergo multiple surgeries. Please don't go tanning!

Try a safe alternative, like self tanning. I know that being tan is really popular right now and stuff, but you shouldn't let what's "popular" effect your health.

Everything Jaime said is true. Tanning beds are applying 100% unblocked radiation to your entire body at once. That is much MUCH worse than being in the sun, even if it is only for a few minutes.

Contrary to popular belief, you can get skin cancer without burning. All tans are a result of cell damage, regardless of whether there was a burn first. Radiation is acting upon the cells in your skin and damaging them, and will cause cancer. Think of tanning like walking into Chernobyl: you are subjecting yourself to radiation and damaging your body.

I've had skin cancer twice from UV exposure. Neither time was melanoma (thankfully), but I have to get full body MRI scans every month just to make sure the cancer hasn't returned and metastasised to other organs. It is expensive and scary, and will happen every month for the rest of my life (unless, God forbid, the cancer returns).

With the huge improvements in self-tanners and spray tans, there is NO EXCUSE to use a tanning bed.

I am one of those girls that don't lie out on the sun when why are Are at the pool or beach instead I just play in pool and I still get tanned ( not as much as lying out in the sun ) so just swim in the pool/beach and you still get tanned
