I want to begin contouring and highlighting with light and dark foundations. I searched all over YouTube but could not find out if everyone begins with their normal colour foundation first and then add white foundation to highlight and darker foundation to contour, does anyone know? Also, I really love using a damp beauty blender, is that ok for blending all lines?

I would use one shade darker to contour and one shade lighter to highlight. Or you can use UR shade as the contour and a shade lighter to highlight.

I've seen it done both ways.
I've seen cream concealed used to contour and highlight with foundation over to blend.
Or foundation first then contour highlight and blend until right.
However you get the effect is a good way to do it :)

I like using a stippling brush but the beauty blender works well too :)

I keep seeing people put their foundation on top of the liquid contour and highlight but I feel like that may mute it?

I've seen people put the dark foundation on first on the areas they want to contour, apply the regular foundation over it and blend that in, then apply a light foundation on top of that on the highlight areas. I don't know if you'd want to do it in that order but you could try it.

I use cream concealers to highlight & contour with. I apply my foundation as usual then apply a lighter concealer in areas I want to highlight (bridge of nose, under eyes, cupids bow & chin). Blend it out using a beauty blender then set it with my Ben Nye Banana Powder. I contour with a darker concealer (hollows of cheeks, jaw line & nose) then set it with my regular contour powder I choose to use that day. After I do that, then I go back over the high points of my cheeks, down the bridge of my nose & cupids bow with a powder highlighter. I usually use ELF's Gotta Glow (dupe for NARS Albatross).
Putting foundation over your highlight doesn't totally mute it out, but it definitely tones it wayyyy down.

I don't think there is any right way to do it, people find what works best for them. Try doing it both ways and figure out which way you are most comfortable with and what works best for you xx
