Which is the best paid category for a MUA? photography, tv, films, fashion, bridal, etc?

Best paid would probably be film, but you'd have to be amazing and well known to get those gigs.
Bridal is common since people get married all the time and depending on your location you can make pretty decent money.
Fashion actually doesn't pay at much as people think, unless youre a key artist. You're mainly paid in product.
I don't know much about tv and print.

In addition to whether a job is union or not affecting the pay scale for a particular project, the pay varies depending upon your expertise and experience as well as the area in which you live. If you work outside of a major market you will not be able to charge as much regardless of what area you specialize in. If you do live outside a major market you will do better if you can become proficient in several areas.
