Lol my mom always taught me less is more when it comes to makeup and she taught me how to put eyeliner in my waterline but my mom never really wore much makeup and I'm the same way :P.

My mom always said not to put on foundation all of the time to let your skin breathe. She's almost 60 and her skin is amazing so she did something right.
