I've been using Smashbox BB cream and I too have combination skin. I don't apply any powder on top of it and it wears well throughout the day. I did top it with my Bobbi Brown Mineral Foundation one day and it faired pretty well too though I like the ability to have less product on my face. I did have a few small zits pop up but then they went away. My breakout zone tends to be my forehead and I noticed since I've been using it....it has been clearing up it up.I use my antioxidant serum in the AM followed by the BB cream and I'm done. When I applied it over my spf moisturizer my skin became an oil slick within a few hours and I needed to blot. I also have Too Faced Beauty Balm and that one has a slight shimmer to it. That one forces me to use my mineral foundation to set it because it conflicts with my Bobbi Brown shimmer brick. I don't think it controls the oil as good as the Smashbox formula but it still does a great job at giving you a nice canvas for the rest of your look. Hope this helps. :)

I like to apply BB cream in the winter and powder foundation in the summer. I have combination skin but it gets really dry over the winter and BB cream is more moisturizing than powder foundation. (I don't use liquid foundation because it often breaks me out.) My favorite BB cream is Skin79 Super+ BB Cream (pink label). It provides great coverage (for redness and pores) and a dewy finish overall. Over the summer, I like to use Maybelline Mineral Power Powder Foundation. It's light and provides good coverage. The shade that I use (Creamy Natural) matches my summer skin tone better than my winter skin tone. Be sure to apply powder after BB cream/powder foundation for oil control and longer lasting result :)

I loooove the Japanese Maybelline BB cream! it has more coverage than a tinted moisturizer but isn't as heavy as a foundation. plus, BB creams are better for your skin. & if you don't like it alone, it can be used as a primer for your foundation as well.
