I am going to Hawaii for vacation. People say that the sun is closer or something and people who aren't use to the sun get sunburnt really bad. I don't want to suffer with a burnt or get sun cancer when I grow older. I have gotten told that tanning in a tanning bed helps so I don't get burnt. Any thoughts on this? I've never gone tanning in my life so any tips or experiences would be great!! Thanks.

I've heard that you can tan just a little bit on a tanning bed to get your skin a bit used to the heat before you shock it with the sun in Hawaii, it's a kick-start for the color too, and once you get back you can tan a few minutes once a week, maybe once every two weeks, to keep the tanning results a bit longer!
But I wouldn't recommend tanning beds for anyone, it's a super high risk you take. Just make sure you don't stay under the sun the first day, and each day you can add more and more time to tan, and you'll be fine! <3

Just use sunscreen. And actually I normally burn a lot but not so much in Hawaii, just keep in the shade and when you are in the sun use a low spf sun block.

Just wear sunscreen while you there with atleast 30 SPF and reapply often even if you want to tab because you will still get tan wearing sunscreen!! You just lower the risk of getting sunburnt!! oh and have fun!!😄

The jump-start tan is a complete myth. You need to minimize exposure to UV radiation to prevent skin cancer, and lying in a tanning bed (no matter how short the duration is) is unnecessary exposure. Wear a high SPF sunscreen and reapply every ninety minutes (every hour f you go swimming). Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. Wear loose long sleeves and pants as much as you can, and a hat.
I've had skin cancer twice from sun exposure, and it is a horrible experience. I've posted my whole story in a couple threads about tanning, if you'd like to know just how scary skin cancer can be.

My mum went to a tanning bed maybe five times or so within two months and developed Melanoma. I also know loads of people who've never had a reaction, but for safety reason please don't go to a tanning bed. Not only is it a cancer risk but it is horrid on your skin as far as wrinkles go. Wear a high SPF sun lotion :)

Banana Boat makes a water and perspiration resistant lotion with SPF 110 so there is no shortage of coverage out there. I'd snag some St. Tropez mousse and get a little color on..then keep your skin protected. Hope you have fun!
