I have thick layered dark brown/black hair and would like to bleach it white/very light gray. I have never bleached/dyed my hair before and would say that my hair is pretty healthy. I would like to know how many times I would have to bleach my hair to achieve this color and how much damage could be done to my hair.

Bleaching will destroy your hair. It makes if worse if your hair is dark. If you want it permanently, bleaching may be a good option for you, but it isn't gone until you cut it. I recommend using a boxed color instead of bleaching, to save you a lot of hard work put into healthy hair.

Get it done proffessionally it will save you stuffing up and if it does at least you have someone to blame. when I bleached my hair it was very dark (jet black) and I had to use a 40 volume but any volume bleach will dry out your hair and cause breakage so I suggest you get it done proffessionally and use a really good shampoo and conditioner and find a good leave in treatment :)

I was leaning towards getting it down at the salon, but I'm just a bit hesitant because of how many time I would have to go back to get it touched up.

I would say every month and a half get a touch up I haven't gone back to get it touched up and it's grown about 1in and a half so its not cute lol

Well I probably wouldn't have to worry about roots because I only wanted to bleach the bottom third of my hair.

Oh then you should be fine then :) the hardest part will just be achieving the color you want and then all you have to do it use a good shampoo conditioner a good hair conditioning treatment and you should be fine 😊 and purple shampoos help too so maybe ask your stylist about any suggestions I use pravana :)

Whatever you do don't use box color. It's so bad for your hair
