So I found out a month ago that I have alopecia areata (patchy balding disorder/autoimmune disease) I have one spot that's not growing back yet and I'm craving a hair change since I usually dye my hair differently several times a year, but now I'm terrified ill lose more hair.
I'm curious if anyone els out there has AA and still successfully died their hair? Thanks for any input 😊👍

Hey there, I don't have AA but I saw that nobody has answered yet so I tried to do a little research for you.
A radio station in New Jersey spoke to a salon about hair coloring and AA-- unfortunately I can't listen to the response on my mobile so I can only give you a link: http://943thepoint.com/is-hair-color-safe-for-alopecia-areata-sufferers-salon-kokopellis-beauty-secret/
I haven't been able to find many responses from doctors or salon professionals, but it seems that the majority of folks whom have discussed the topic haven't had problems with hair dye exacerbating their alopecia. However, that is all pretty subjective so take that with a grain of salt.
If you'd like more information about the condition in general, the National Alopecia Areata Foundation has a lovely website here: http://WWW.naaf.org/
Sorry I couldn't be of more help; hopefully some other people with experience can chime in.

Thank you 👍 I've had a difficult time trying to find any kind of feed back about AA and hair dye lol I think if my "spot" starts to grow back ill attempt to slowly do a few foils at a time. Again thank you for taking the time to help 👍

My dermatologist (I have AA as well) said that it wouldn't effect the growth/loss of your hair, and I dyed mine. I didn't put a lot of bleach in it, however; I was a little nervous that it might fall out anyway.
